Volusion has an option to allow you to export the data from their database into a XML file.
For this example I will explain how to create a Generic Orders xml file. This will hold the data which is in the orders section of the system, however you can do this for any of the generic (maybe others too) API exports.

From the Volusion Dashboard select INVENTORY then IMPORT/EXPORT.
From the tabs select the one named VOLUSION API.
Under the Heading GENERIC there should be three ENABLE buttons next to GENERIC ORDERS, GENERIC PRODUCTS and GENERIC CUSTOMERS.
Click ENABLE next the one you wish to use, for this example GENERIC ORDERS.
This will now change the button from ENABLE to RUN. Click RUN.

This will now display the main API screen which will generate the file. Before running the export select the fields you wish to be included in the file, if you want all the fields tick the box under SELECT COLUMNS on the first row which should be for * (* = everything).

Providing you have not run this export before all you need to do is click the RUN button. If however you have pressed the RUN button before please read the section below on Resetting API export file.

After pressing RUN there will be two new fields displayed, a DOWNLOAD button and URL in a box.

If you press on the DOWNLOAD button it should display your XML file, if not you can use the URL in the box to display it. If nothing is displayed make sure you have selected at least one of the tick boxes.

Something to bare in mind which lots of people get confused about, either pressing the DOWNLOAD button or entering in the URL (or refreshing that page if already displayed) will not just re-run the export. It will export entries which have not already been exported. If an entry has been changed, for example a change to an order or product it will list those which have been changed.

There is a restriction of the file, it will only include orders which have not already been included in an export before AND will only include up to 100 items. If you wish to export more than 100 items you will need to run it twice (or more). Becareful to save the first XML file somewhere BEFORE running it again as it will overwrite the file.

Resetting API export file
Everytime you run the export the system will include the date and time in the dropdown box called RESET GENERIC ORDERS.

Resetting the last export
If you want to reset the last export select the top (this should be the most recent version) entry in the dropdown. Then press the RESET EXPORT button (it’s really a text button not an orange one).

A complete reset of the export file
If you want to start from the beginning and remove all traces of any export select the bottom entry in the dropdown as this will be the oldest and delete everything.
